EU Tiles and Bricks Executives attend 2017 TBE Congress

The 2017 TBE Congress took place on 22-23 June in Nice, France, and was kindly hosted by the French Federation of Roof Tiles & Bricks (FFTB) and co-organised by TBE. It gathered around 100 executives from tiles and bricks companies and national associations from all over Europe.


 The TBE Congress started on Thursday 22 June with the Masonry Product Group. Members attended the TBE Joint Environmental and Technical Working Group followed by the Roofing Tiles Product Group in the afternoon in order to gain a comprehensive overview of the activities undertaken during the last year. Discussions were held on the EU standards, the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) as well as the reform of the Emissions Trading System Directive (ETS).

The meetings were followed by the Life HEROTile Workshop where the mid-term results of the Life HEROTile project on energy efficiency through ventilated roof tiles were presented. The midterm conference started with a welcome address and introduction by Mr. Renaud Batier, Director General of Ceramie-Unie, and continued with a presentation by Mr. Mario Cunial, Coordinator of the Life HEROTile project and Vice President of ANDIL, the Italian Association of tiles and clay bricks producers as well as other invited guests.

That evening the TBE Members enjoyed a cocktail and gala dinner in a stunning seaside restaurant. 

The morning of Friday 23 June was dedicated to the TBE Executive Committee and TBE General Assembly which served as an occasion to mark the achievements of 2016-2017 and identify the upcoming challenges. The TBE Members discussed upcoming activities such as the ongoing revision of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) Directive and the coming publication of the Cumulative Costs Assessments study commissioned by the European Commission.




The 2017 TBE Congress was an opportunity to celebrate the leadership of TBE’s Outgoing President Mr. Ioannis Maliouris, the CEO of B. Maliouris S.A. Mr. Mirosław Jaroszewicz from the Polish Employers Union of Building Ceramics was elected the new TBE’s President. Mr. Iaonnis Maliouris will stay on as TBE Vice-President. On this occasion, Mr. Jaroszewicz and Mr. Maliouris underlined the importance of TBE as a representative body of the European bricks and roof tiles industry and thanked for the opportunity to hold the 2017 TBE meetings in Nice. They also stated that TBE shall continue its efforts to work together with the European Institutions in order to develop its presence in Europe.

Thanks to the TBE Members and the French Federation of Roof Tiles & Bricks (FFTB), the 2017 TBE Congress was a great success. TBE looks forward to welcoming its Members to Poland for the Congress in 2018.
